KLANG - Selangor Sultan, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has slammed the actions of certain individuals, including political leaders who have been using harsh and disrespectful language during their political campaigns, dragging the royal institution into their speeches.

His Majesty said that such actions depicted the deterioration of respect by some members and political leaders towards the royal institution and the Malay Sultanate, which protected the Muslim community, Malays and other ethnicities.

"Their uncivilised behavior goes beyond the boundaries and values of the Islamic and Malay identities that are frequently upheld.

"Let us remember that assuming we are popular among the people does not justify ridiculing anyone who holds differing political opinions.

"It is disappointing to witness the willingness to travel to Selangor just to hurl insults that cross all limits.

"Where has our sense of decorum gone? It is not our culture, especially among the Malays to insult anyone, especially in the public domain.

"Let us uphold our etiquette and manners, particularly when visiting other states or people's homes," His Majesty said.

The message was delivered after presenting letters of appointment to the Menteri Besar and State Executive Council (exco) during the ceremony at Balairung Seri, Istana Alam Shah today.

His Majesty also urged all parties to put an end to the culture of derogatory remarks, as it could disrupt harmony within society.

Instead, he encouraged focusing on advancing the lives of the people and prospering the nation.

"I am also taking this opportunity to call upon all Malay Muslims in Selangor to always avoid internal conflicts and disputes that could lead to the Malay Muslim community's division and tarnish the Islamic faith's sanctity.

"I have observed that politics has already divided our unity among the Muslim community due to narrow political ideologies.

"We need to move forward and bring about change in the way we engage in politics and think," His Majesty stressed.

He further declared that the elections have concluded and urged all parties to work together in strengthening relationships, regardless of religion, ethnicity and political beliefs.

"We must reunite to rebuild the country and the state of Selangor in particular.

"Let us respect one another by not amplifying issues that touch the sensitivities of religions, ethnicities, nations, or lineages, which could jeopardise harmony.

"Utilise social media platforms and all modern technological applications available today for positive purposes that contribute to societal unity, rather than spreading false information and hatred that could lead to societal division," he said.

His Majesty concluded his address by praying for the protection of all citizens from any harm and for those from diverse backgrounds to live in harmony and peace.

"It is my hope that the beloved state of Selangor will continue to progress and its government will consistently address the issues faced by the people and fulfill their aspirations," he said.
