MUAR - Muar Pakatan Harapan (PH) urges Syed Saddiq to vacate the Muar Parliamentary seat for the mandate to be handed to the public for another by-election to be held.

Muar PH secretary Abdullah Sahid said Muda must do so and contest in their own capacity, unlike the 15th general election (GE15) with aid from PH.

“Syed Saddiq would not hesitate to vacate his seat if he was confident in winning the seat in Muda’s capacity.

“Let’s give it back to the Muar public to choose the local leadership that truly brought the aspirations of voters who support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister and are united in the unity government to change Malaysia for the better,” he said in a press conference at the Muar Art Gallery here on Thursday.

Muda on Sunday said it would act as the third opposition and withdrew support for the unity government.

Syed Saddiq explained the notification on the matter was submitted to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul through a letter sent on Sunday.

Abdullah said Syed Saddiq’s actions to leave the unity government when the nation needed political stability to fix damages was inappropriate.

He claimed Muda was willing to take the same route as the opposition, politicking and disturbing the nation’s stability for personal gain.

He said the issue of the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision to grant the dismissal not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) for Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was a half-baked political excuse that was hypocritical from Syed Saddiq to rationalise the hasty and chaotic actions.

Abdullah said Syed Saddiq leaving the unity government was heartbreaking and he had forgotten his roots, even deciding to use the PH machinery in Muar and discarding it afterward.

“We represent 19,961 Muar voters and the PH component parties, which are Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and DAP have given their support for Syed Saddiq in GE15 felt disappointed after his decision clearly betrayed the public mandate.

“Syed Saddiq’s presence as an outsider who was a Perling State Assembly voter in Pulai Parliament since 2018 which Muar PH carefully planned as unity government allies,” he said.

Abdullah said he believed Syed Saddiq won in GE15 not on Muda’s merit and power but based on support and being carried through by Muar PH.

“This was proven with the state elections data for the six states previously which saw Muda losing all deposits in 19 state seats contested. If Muda contested in Muar without PH’s support, it would lead to the same fate. A loss in deposit,” he said.

He added Muar voters were wise in their choices and chose Syed Saddiq due to the reform led by Anwar and PH setting foot in Muar since 1999.
