SHAH ALAM - The Selangor Road Transport Department (RTD) has confiscated motorcycles used for e-hailing delivery purposes which are rented or borrowed from other owners.

In a statement, RTD Selangor stated that the 2023 Ops Merah operation on the Federal Highway towards the capital city of Kuala Lumpur yesterday, they discovered a motorcycle being used with the SmeD application.

They also found that the motorcycle's vehicle licence (LKM) had expired in 2017.

The statement further clarified that, in addition to the expired LKM, the rider also did not possess a valid driver's licence.

"The officers on duty also questioned the motorcycle rider about how he was operating without a driver's licence and with an expired LKM.

"He admitted to renting and borrowing another owner's account while providing e-hailing services and also registering other vehicles while conducting these services," the statement read.

As a result, the motorcycle was confiscated and taken to RTD Shah Alam for various other offences.

During the operation, a total of 1,430 motorcycles were inspected, and 613 notices were issued for various violations under the Road Transport Act 1987.

Additionally, 35 motorcycles were seized during the operation.
