Nine buffalos die suspected of being poisoned

PORT DICKSON - A family managing a buffalo breeding farm were disappointed after nine of their livestock was found dead in an oil palm plantation at Kampung Barisan, Sua Betong here on Monday.

Breeder G Yoovan Kumar, 24, said he was informed at 12.30pm that three of his buffalos had died before finding a container filled with brown sugar suspected of being of being poison.

He said he had 150 buffalos and after checking on them, nine had died while 12 to 13 were still missing.

“The buffalo carcasses were found in stages at different locations around the plantation starting from yesterday to the morning.

The buffaloes were of several breeds including buffalos weighing 900 kilograms bought at a price of RM12,000.

“I’m the third generation of buffalo breeders, which were inherited from my father and grandfather previously. It was feared that our livestock had drank out of the container before they died,” he said when met by reporters at the scene on Tuesday.

Yoovan Kumar said the situation caused them as a family to suffer losses of thousands of ringgit.

“A police report was lodged on Monday at the Linggi Police Station for further actions by police and the Negeri Sembilan Veterinary Department,” he said.

Port Dickson district police chief, Superintendent Aidi Sham Mohamed confirmed receiving the report.
