Kemaman victory nullification: No decision yet whether to appeal or proceed with by-election - Sanusi
ALOR SETAR - Pas has not yet decided whether to appeal the decision of the Election Court that nullified the victory of Kemaman member or parliament Che Alias Hamid, who represented Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the 15th general election (GE15).
The PN election director-general, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, said any decision regarding an appeal or to conduct a by-election, as was done in the Kuala Terengganu parliament, has not been discussed.
For now, his party was in further discussions with the appointed legal team.
"Pas will observe developments over the next day or two. We accept the court's decision openly. There are only two options: either have a by-election or appeal against the decision.
"The legal team will discuss with the party whether to appeal or proceed with a by-election. If we want a quick by-election, it will be the same as in Kuala Terengganu," he said at a press conference after chairing an Exco meeting at Wisma Darul Aman here today.
The Pas Central Election Director said it was not impossible that Kemaman will face a similar scenario as Kuala Terengganu.
"In the Kuala Terengganu petition, we won by a large margin. Kemaman will win by an even bigger margin; it's just a waste of time and money. No problem.
"We'll beat them again. Beating them twice, they won't dare challenge us again; they'll sink right away," he added.
On Tuesday, the Terengganu Election Court nullified Che Alias's victory in the GE15 for the respective parliamentary seat.
The Election Judge Datuk Anselm Charles Fernandis, made the decision after finding elements of bribery involving voters during the campaign period.
In the election, Che Alias defeated three other candidates, including former Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, with a majority of 27,179 votes.
