ALOR SETAR - The children of the nurse who was stabbed to death by her husband at their home in Jalan Padang Nyu, Arau, Perlis will be provided with counselling sessions for the trauma following what their parents had gone through.

Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Aiman Athirah Sabu said the counselling sessions would be arranged by the Social Welfare Department soon.

She said the ministry will look at the most qualified guardian to take care of the two boys aged six and eight which would be decided by the department and family members.

"The children are affected, help from counsellors is important for them other than financial aids for their lives in the future.

"They will go through a process similar to other victims, the ministry will examine the most appropriate guardianship rights besides looking at the psychological effects that they may go through," she said in a press conference after officiating the KPWKM@Anti-Sexual Harassment Advocacy walk here, today.

Aiman said the ministry will help the children including the family of the nurse.

On Saturday, it was reported that a retired army surrendered at the Perlis Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) guardhouse after stabbing his wife to death as a result of being jealous.

The victim, Munirah Abu Bakar, 31, a nurse at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital (HTF), Kangar died after she was stabbed around 6am.

Aiman advised women to contact the ministry or Talian Kasih at 15999 if they were facing issues at home.

"We can offer help and guidance. Our community is facing various problems, but don't make yourself suffer.

"The ministry has several programmes, Matahari (Improving Women's Resilience and Psychology) and Iris (Legal Literacy and Women's Rights) to educate women on their rights and measures to be taken when facing issues of broken families or domestic violence," she said.

She said a trained counsellor would not only provide advice to women or wives but also the husbands who were facing issues.

"That's why we want the community to consistently contact the ministry and Talian Kasih at 1599 if they needed counsellors to help them resolve their issues," she said.
