Not all politicians are greedy, cruel - Anwar

BENTONG - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim asserts that he did not use his power to sell the country or to enrich his family members.

He also denied claims that his meeting with the Chinese Prime Minister during his visit to the country had a hidden agenda.

"The Chinese Prime Minister asked for a special lunch meeting between the two of us for a discussion. I frankly told him our hopes so that our waters are protected, but some said that Anwar had sold the state to Ambalat.

"That's why I refused to answer every single issue. I went in and out of prison and got beaten almost to death. Then when I became PM (Prime Minister), I want to sell the state? To make myself, Azizah (his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) and our kids rich? No.

"We want to use our power to make a change. Not all policians are greedy. Not all of them are cruel," he said at Karnival Segalanya Felda Wilayah Mempaga opening ceremony at Dataran Niaga Felda Chemomoi today.

Speaking in front of about 1,000 Felda members of the Pelangai state assembly, Anwar after 25 years believed that many parties were still dissatisfied and denied his ability to govern the country for the better especially in dealing with power abuse and corruption.

Thus, he vowed to stop leaders who would often take advantage for their own interests.

"I will try my best with fellow ministers, the state government. We will do the best to stop the leaders who take advantage to make themselves rich, taking logs, land, rare earth, shares and contracts.

"I want to stop that so that new leaders in Malaysia shall honor what is entrusted to them and stand up for the people. I believe that if there is determination, give us some time, we will change and raise Malaysia to become a great country in Southeast Asia again," he said.
