'Bersatu not sidelined in PN'
KOTA BHARU - Pas' description of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) as a 'bull with a pierced nose' is seen as an attempt to sow discord between the two parties.
Pas deputy president, Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah implied that such comments are aimed at inciting unease among Bersatu members toward Pas.
"Contrary to claims that Bersatu is sidelined, we have had clear understandings.
"For instance, post the recent state elections, Bersatu ceded control of Kelantan, Kedah, and Terengganu to Pas. This was an agreed-upon decision from the onset," he told Sinar yesterday.
Mohd Amar highlighted that if Perikatan Nasional (PN) had emerged victorious in Selangor, the Menteri Besar position would have been allocated to Bersatu.
"A similar arrangement was in place for Negeri Sembilan, but since PN didn’t secure a win there, Bersatu didn't get the MB post.
"In Kelantan, Bersatu has been given significant representation. They have an exco member, two deputy excos, and a deputy speaker.
"Out of six Bersatu reps, only two were left without posts, excluding other political appointments," he added.
Mohd Amar noted the arrangements in Kedah and Terengganu are consistent, dismissing any notion of Bersatu being marginalised.
"In Kelantan, Bersatu openly acknowledges their reliance on Pas. They credit their victory to the logistical support and backing of Pas supporters," he clarified.
Earlier, media highlighted comments by former Bersatu Supreme Council Member Muhammad Faiz Na'aman who labeled Bersatu as merely a 'follower' of Pas.
Commenting on a proposal to revamp Bersatu’s leadership, Faiz expressed concerns about Bersatu's potential shift towards extremism under PN.
He warned that achieving central government control requires collaboration with diverse ethnic groups.
