SHAH ALAM – Pas rebuts the claim that the current Islamist party has deviated from its path that was laid down by its former spiritual leader the late Tan Sri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Its party vice president Datuk Idris Ahmad said Pas has always been the same.

“Neither Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang nor its former president the late Tan Sri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat are considered great leaders towards non-Muslims in Malaysia,” said the Bagan Serai MP during press conference at 69th Pas Muktamar at the Ideal Convention Centre, here, today.

He addressed various issues from the political party dynamics to concerns about Islamophobia and the treatment of different communities in Malaysia.

"DAP left the 'Barisan Alternatif' in 2001, marking a shift in the political landscape of Malaysia.

"Pas is fully committed to non-Muslim voters. As shown by Tuan Guru (Hadi Awang) during his tenure as Terengganu Menteri Besar, he successfully ensured equal rights and fair treatment for non-Malays in the state," Idris added.

Idris highlighted that the late Nik Aziz's administration in Kelantan also championed equality, treating both Muslim and non-Muslim communities fairly.

"However, when we look at Penang, questions arise regarding the rights of the Malay community in the state," he said.

Idris also expressed his gratitude to Umno supporters who have backed the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition in the 15th General Election (GE15).

"Now, Umno supporters can see which coalition party is authentic.

"This signifies a movement for safeguarding the rights of the Chinese and Indian communities, indicating a desire for unity and harmony among Malaysia's diverse population," he said.
