Rohingya woman, two daughters nabbed for housebreaking
KUALA TERENGGANU - Terengganu police have arrested a Rohingya woman and her two underage daughters for allegedly working with a syndicate to commit burglaries.
Terengganu police chief Datuk Mazli Mazlan said the 33-year-old woman and her children, aged 13 and 14, were nabbed at 7.05 pm on Monday in Kampung Binjai, Kemaman while trying to flee in a Perodua Kelisa.
Police found in the car boot two sharp objects and an assortment of belongings believed to be the loot, including jewellery, bags, cash and wristwatches.
"The 33-year-old suspect tested positive for methamphetamine. Preliminary investigations show that she has three criminal records and is also wanted for housebreaking in Johor," he told a news conference here today.
He said the woman used false number plates when driving around to commit housebreaking and had confessed to being involved in five burglaries in Kemaman and Johor this year.
"She targeted senior citizens staying alone. Her children would attract the victim to engage in a conversation outside the house before she entered to ransack it,” he added.
Mazli said police were tracking down other members of the housebreaking syndicate.
On the case of a trader flying the Israeli flag in Bukit Payong, Marang last week, Mazli said police had completed the investigation paper and would submit it to the state prosecutor's office.
"The case was investigated under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names Act 1963 and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for committing acts to disturb the peace and Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
"Investigations show that the suspect has five records in connection with crimes related to drugs and violence,” he said. - BERNAMA
