SHAH ALAM - It is not impossible to overthrow the Unity Government, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim because the parties, which make up the government, lack significant majority.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin claimed that the Madani Government led by the Pakatan Harapan (PH), only won 82 parliamentary seats in the last general election, with a popular vote of 36.1 per cent compared to Perikatan Nasional (PN), which garnered 49.3 per cent.

"PN is more popular than them (PH), so we need to continue strengthening support to achieve more than 50 per cent of the popular vote," he said during his closing speech at the Annual General Assembly of Bersatu 2023 today.

Hamzah also reminded Anwar not to question efforts to change the government, who is also PKR president, had also embarked on a similar move on September 16, 2008.

He said that at that time Anwar claimed to have obtained the majority support from members of parliament (MPs) "Previously, when that person (Anwar) was the opposition leader, supposedly there were strong numbers to overthrow the government, as allowed by the Federal Constitution according to democratic practises.

"I give a warning: if Allah says 'Kun Fa Ya Kun,' no being can obstruct.

"Until the time comes, (thanks to) the prayers of all representatives, members, and supporters of PN, God willing, the government will change," he said.

It was reported that Anwar had claimed 15 years ago that more than 31 members of parliament (MPS) from the Barisan Nasional (BN) would supposedly join PKR, thereby causing the government led by then-prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to dissolve.
