PUTRAJAYA - Former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin’s wife claims that her husband is being persecuted by the authorities for his success.

Speaking at a press conference before entering the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters with two of their children, Toh Puan Naimah argued that Daim's successful business career before entering politics was weaponised to malign his reputation and paint him as corrupt.

"My husband is being persecuted because of that success.

"As a free country that practices democracy, it is not an offence to succeed in business and industry to achieve wealth," she said.

Naimah further claimed a deliberate campaign misconstrues information and perceptions, depicting Daim as corrupt solely due to his considerable wealth.

"It is something unreasonable and illogical, and no successful businessman in this country will escape such accusations.

"Today, it's my family, tomorrow, who else will be a victim?” the question arises.

However, she also explained that they would cooperate with the MACC as required by the law.
