SHAH ALAM - Speculation of an internal rift in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) involving its President and Secretary General was deliberately hyped by opponents to split the party and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) member Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof said that until now the relationship between the former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin was very strong with the Larut MP.

He said the reason for the speculation of Bersatu's internal division was now being spread rapidly amid the 'commotion' of the party's six MPs switching their support to the unity government because the opposition realised that Hamzah was Muhyiddin's most trusted senior leader.

"The Secretary-General (Hamzah) was appointed by the President (Muhyiddin). Hamzah played an important role in strengthening the party all this time. He proved to fulfill whatever mission and responsibility Muhyiddin entrusted.

"It is not possible that when he (Hamzah) has done his job, the President hastily wants to fire him.

"The opponents know that the key to dividing Bersatu and PN is to pit the President and Secretary-General against each other. That is why various false speculations are being spread," he told Sinar Premium on Monday.

However, Redzuan or better known as 'Pak Wan' admitted that there would be more Bersatu MPs switching their support in the near future.

"This is because the meeting yesterday (Sunday) agreed that amendments to the Bersatu constitution should be made immediately to ensure that all MPs do not easily betray the party by supporting the opposing party," he said.
