BUTTERWORTH - The Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) is currently tracking a dog that attacked two school students in an incident that occurred in Taman Pekatra Indah, Simpang Ampat on Tuesday.

In a statement, MBSP said that they had investigated and inspected the owner's residence on the same day after receiving a report of the incident.

However, the statement revealed that based on the preliminary investigation, the dog had been relocated by its owner to an animal protection centre in Butterworth.

"MBSP will carry out further investigations to obtain detailed information about the actual location of the dog, and action will be taken to issue a compound under the Local Government Act 1976 to the owner for causing a nuisance," said MBSP in the statement on Wednesday.

Previously, two CCTV videos went viral, showing an incident where two female students were chased by a dog while walking to school at 7.27am.

The videos, with durations of two minutes and 6 seconds, as well as one minute and 18 seconds, also depicted a tense situation when a white dog suddenly acted aggressively after coming out of a house gate and continued to chase one of the victims.

A man, believed to be the dog's owner, was seen attempting to catch the dog and prevent it from continuing to chase the victim, but his efforts were unsuccessful.

Shortly after, a motorcycle ridden by a woman arrived shortly and the dog's owner seemed to successfully calm down the pet, preventing it from chasing the victim further.

However, the calm situation was only momentary before the dog became aggressive again, chasing and biting one of the female students.

A nearby resident, who noticed the incident, could be considered a saviour as he chased the dog and frightened it away with a piece of wood.

The students were later taken away on a motorcycle, leaving the scene.

It is understood that both victims not only experienced trauma but one of them also suffered injuries after being seen falling several times on the road while trying to escape.

In the meantime, MBSP said the dog attack case falls under the purview of the Veterinary Services Department (JPV), and victims were advised to seek treatment and follow-up examinations at nearby clinics or hospitals.

Furthermore, the case will be referred to the JPV for further action under the Veterinary Protocol of Malaysia.
