KAJANG - A driver accused of crashing into a food delivery rider and then tried to flee was beaten up to death by a group of individuals in Taman Pelangi Dua, here, yesterday.

In the incident, the 42-year-old victim, who was driving a Proton Saga, skidded and crashed into the residential area's fence.

Subsequently, he was pulled out from the car by a group of individuals and beaten up to death with his hands tied.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan said his team received initial information regarding the incident at about 9.20pm.

"Initial investigations at the scene of the incident found that a Proton Saga vehicle was believed to have veered off before crashing into the fence of the residential area.

"The victim, who was the driver of the vehicle, was discovered lying on the road, displaying indications of bound wrists," he said in a statement, today.

He said the victim was confirmed dead at the scene by a medical personnel.

"Further investigations were carried out by the District Police Headquarters (IPD) Criminal Investigation Division.

"Based on statements by witnesses, the victim was pulled out from his vehicle by a group of individuals," he said.

He said according to eyewitnesses, the victim was not only beaten up, but also bound and left on the road at the scene.

"However, all the individuals who subjected the victim to such treatment had scattered by the time the police arrived at the scene.

"Investigations were then carried out by the Bukit Aman forensics unit and several samples including bloodstains and fingerprints were taken. Two pieces of rope were seized," he said.

Zaid said following subsequent information obtained, it led to the arrest of five men in Semenyih and Beranang who were believed to be involved in the incident.

"All five suspects aged between 22 and 52 were detained at about 2.05am.

"The suspects were remanded for five days for further investigation," he said.

The case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code and Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"The public with information related to the incident are urged to contact Assistant Superintendent Redzuan Mat Salleh from the Kajang IPD Criminal Investigation Division at 013-7854100.

"Information can also be channelled by contacting Inspector Ammar Tahir from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 018-2194013 to assist in the investigation," he said.
