SHAH ALAM – The new format of property declaration needs to have comprehensive features to enable the use of clear and easily accessible guidelines, ensuring that the goal of its implementation is achieved.

Yayasan Sinar Untuk Malaysia (Rasuah Busters) chief executive officer Norhayati Nordin said among the important aspects that needed to be emphasised were asset information, deadlines and imposing penalties on those who did not comply with the instructions.

"The format should be consistent at a standard level to ensure easy accessibility for the public. If it is declared but difficult to access, it defeats the purpose of introducing a new property declaration format altogether.

"All the information uploaded must be in line with the financial records which are the priority in the declaration of the assets to ensure accuracy and honesty from the parties involved," she told Sinar, yesterday.

Previously, Minister of the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reforms) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said property declaration for members of the administration and MPs will be enforced using a new format soon.

Meanwhile, Norhayati suggested that periodic monitoring be conducted in the face of new systems or challenges so that property declaration can be carried out smoothly, effectively and remained relevant.

"Looking at the situation, the most important thing is to consider public perception, as those implementing the new format bear significant responsibility. They must be mindful of the trust placed in them by the people.

"If it is executed properly, the opportunity or risk of corruption can be mitigated.
