Detained Israeli: Tighten security at all entry points - Expert
Surveillance, spying, and intelligence should be enhanced to the highest level.
SHAH ALAM - Inspections and security controls at all entrances to the country need to be tightened to ensure incidents of Israeli men successfully infiltrating using passports from other countries while possessing firearms do not recur.
Defence and geostrategic analyst Muhammad Fuad Mat Noor said that control at the country’s entrance including air, sea and land is very important to filter not only individuals but also the goods brought in.
"In the issue of Israeli citizens who also have a French passport in addition to their own country, this is not something new because many small countries offer dual citizenship.
"This is actually a challenge to the authorities, especially if the individual only uses one passport in the entry record for any country. What is happening is very worrying.
"So, it is important for all enforcement agencies to ensure that surveillance, spying, and intelligence at all borders or entry points of the country are enhanced to the highest level for any foreigner entering Malaysia," he told Sinar Ahad.
Asked about the concerns of many following the confession of the foreign man who bought firearms in this country, Fuad said that in Malaysia, the purchase of such prohibited items was not as easy as portrayed.
In fact, he did not rule out the possibility that the Israeli man bought it through a certain network that had ties to groups linked to Mossad agents who had been detained by the authorities before.
"Those who buy firearms must have a network. We hope that the authorities monitor all aspects of the sale of firearms, including online sales.
"However, whatever the method or method of purchase, it must be brought in through the national border.
"So, this highlights the importance of all enforcement agencies involved in carefully checking every item that enters our country," he said.
He added that enforcement agencies also have the right to conduct further inspections if there were items or behaviours of foreign nationals deemed suspicious.
