LONDON - Long-standing Vogue editor and style maven Anna Wintour was awarded a Companion of Honour during an investiture ceremony with King Charles at Buckingham Palace in London on Tuesday, reported German news agency (dpa).
The fashion journalist joins actress Judy Dench, pop star Elton John, painter David Hockney and ex-Beatle Paul McCartney in being made Companions of Honour - an award only granted to 65 people at one time.
Wintour, 75, who has been editor of the influential fashion magazine since 1988, took off her trademark sunglasses to be presented with the honour by the King.
"Congratulations, Dame Anna Wintour," the royal family wrote on X.
"Today, at Buckingham Palace, the King presented the legendary Editor-in-Chief of @VogueMagazine with the Order of the Companions of Honour for Services to Fashion," the post continued.
After the ceremony, Wintour told the PA news agency: "It's wonderful to be back at Buckingham Palace and I was completely surprised and overwhelmed to be given this great honour."
"The last time I was here, the Queen gave me a medal and we both agreed that we had been doing our job a very long time, and then this morning, His Majesty asked me if this meant I was going to stop working, and I said firmly, no." - BERNAMA
