Continued surveillance during ceasefire raises doubts about Israel’s true intentions
Palestinians argue that Israel’s history of broken agreements makes its ceasefire commitments unreliable.

SHAH ALAM – Israelis have a history of breaking their word, which has made them untrustworthy, says Universiti Malaya lecturer Dr Muhammad Al-Aqad.
He further pointed out that Palestinians do not trust Israel’s ceasefire terms, as true freedom cannot exist under constant surveillance.
“In Palestine, particularly in Gaza, a ceasefire is supposed to mean a halt in fighting and killing from both sides. But the reality is different.
"Israelis are betrayers. They never keep their word. Many prophets were killed by Israelis. This is part of their history and everyone knows that. Palestinians will never trust them or their promises," Al-Aqad said during The Palestinian Diaries podcast session aired recently.
Al-Aqad also expressed concern over the continued surveillance by Israeli drones.
He said that these drones are not monitoring civilians but are focused on tracking Hamas leaders, even during declared ceasefires.
According to him, Israeli drones can stay in the skies for up to 10 hours daily, raising questions about the true purpose behind this surveillance.
“Why are the drones still there if there is a ceasefire?
"They are spying and monitoring.
“Only civilians can move freely, while military personnel, including Al-Qassam fighters, face constant risk," he added.
He also believes that Israel’s ongoing monitoring reflects its real intentions—to wait for the right moment to break the ceasefire and launch targeted strikes.
“Whenever Israel sees a strategic opportunity, it will breach the ceasefire and carry out targeted killings.
“They don’t care about the ceasefire," Al-Aqad said.
