SHAH ALAM - The younger generation leading the media industry in this country is encouraged to create a new wave aligned with the times—a "fear of missing out" (fomo) campaign on reading and loving the Quran.

Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation (WUIF) founder Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub said this should be seen as a challenge to be embraced, given that people today faced spiritual, mental and moral issues.

Hussamuddin who is also Kumpulan Karangkraf advisor said the Muslim community in the country is still divided and lacked unity due to deep-rooted differences in ideology.

Therefore, he said, the 2025 World #QuranHour campaign, which will be driven by several local media organisations through Surah Al-Saff, must leverage modern technology and persuasive methods to attract public interest.

"This year, we have chosen Surah Al-Saff, hoping that it will unite the ummah, setting aside different sect beliefs. We should all follow one true path—the Quran.

“We hope that young people, whom Allah SWT have chosen to carry out this programme, can initiate a new wave using the latest methods and technology. People today are suffering mentally due to fomo.

"Now, we want to create another fomo trend—a campaign to love the Quran. I no longer have the expertise or the technology, so the young people must think of ways to ensure that if they do not join this campaign, they will be left behind twice—once in this world and again in the hereafter," he said.

He said this during the media synergy briefing session for World #QuranHour 2025/1446H, held at Studio My #QuranTime, Kompleks Kumpulan Karangkraf, here, today.

Also present were WUIF chief executive Marhaini Yusoff, board of trustees member Ahmad Yani Abd Manaf, chief research officer and tadabbur expert Fazrul Ismail as well as qari Syukri Ali.

This year’s World #QuranHour will be held on March 25, on the 24th day of Ramadan from noon to 1pm.

The main venue for the event is the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Mosque at the International Islamic University Malaysia.

Media organisations supporting the World #QuranHour, themed #SavingTheUmmah, include Astro Oasis as the main broadcaster, Sinar Harian, Sinar Daily and Nu Ideaktiv.

Other participating media outlets are Bernama, Astro Awani, TV Alhijrah, TV3, RTM, TV9, Media Prima, Utusan TV, Utusan Malaysia, the media division of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia, TV Ikim, Ikim FM, Zayan, and Denaihati.com.

Strategic partners involved include IIUM, the Selangor Public Library Corporation, Karya Bestari, Council of Directors of Public Libraries of Malaysia, Akademi Sinergi Ikhlas, Rumah Ngaji My#HadithTime and Soul Fitness.

Hussamuddin said he believed that such efforts could create a significant impact with the involvement of mainstream media in the programme.

He said the World #QuranHour series, which began in 2015, is expected to generate an even bigger and more impactful wave as it reaches its 10th year.

"It doesn’t matter if you start with a small team... We were the same when we first launched this programme 10 years ago, with only four people.

"Create a bigger awareness wave... a mega wave. Next year, a new wave will emerge.

"My#QuranHour and My#QuranTime are not waves; they are platforms to cultivate habits, culture and ways of thinking.

"These are two different things. But World #QuranHour is about the whole world opening the Quran, reading and interacting with it simultaneously for an hour.

"That is why as we enter the 10th year, it is time for young people to bring about a change," he added.
