Malaysian leaders must put aside personal ambitions, egos for greater good of the ummah
Having dedicated years to this cause, WUIF founder Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub recognised that his time at the helm might be limited. This was why he hoped the government would genuinely support this movement.

KUALA LUMPUR – The Muslim ummah is becoming increasingly divided and this is especially evident in Malaysia.
As political struggles and personal interests take centre stage, Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation (WUIF) founder Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub has called on leaders to put aside their egos and prioritise unity.

Speaking at the 10th edition of the World #QuranHour 2025 programme today, he urged leaders to reflect on the teachings of the Quran and work together for the greater good.
“Alhamdulillah, today marks a decade of World #QuranHour. We aspire to take this initiative even further, expanding its reach to an international level.
“While participation has extended beyond Malaysia, it still remains largely a national movement. Hopefully, this concept gains broader global recognition,” he said when met after the event, today.
Despite its success, only a handful of countries such as Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore and India have adopted this campaign.
Hussamuddin stressed that the ultimate goal was to unite the entire Muslim world.
“We see fellow Muslims engaging in conflicts, insulting one another and spreading slander. Through the recitation and reflection (tadabbur) of Surah As-Saff, we are reminded of the urgent need for scholars and the Muslim community to come together in unity,” he added.
He called on Malaysian Muslim leaders in Malaysia to put aside personal ambitions and political rivalries, urging them to prioritise the greater good of the ummah.
He said it was time to find a formula for collaboration, to pause from power struggles and to sit at the same table for meaningful discussions.
Beyond merely organising an annual event, World #QuranHour is an initiative designed to spark a deeper awareness and love for the Quran among Muslims worldwide.
The movement’s long-term ambition is to reach two billion Muslims, paving the way for the revival and strengthening of Islamic nations.
The event held at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Mosque, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Gombak, today, was graced by the presence of Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.

Her Majesty arrived at the mosque grounds at 11.55am, accompanied by Bandar Tun Razak MP and the wife of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar and other dignitaries.
Hussamuddin said the foundation has successfully sustained this initiative for a decade as a small non-governmental organisation, but for the campaign to truly flourish, government support was crucial.
He said if the government stepped in, the campaign could grow even further.
He highlighted that by collaborating with the IIUM which has over 100 alumni chapters worldwide and leveraging government-to-government relationships through Wisma Putra, Education Ministry, Higher Education Ministry and the Religious Affairs Ministry, the campaign could truly achieve a global impact.
Malaysia, he said, has the potential to be recognised as the initiator of this movement.
He also urged the Prime Minister and relevant ministries to genuinely support this movement.
“We urge them to study the programme, understand its purpose and recognise what we have achieved so far.
“If the government provides the necessary ‘rocket fuel’ for this campaign and with IIUM acting as the launchpad, we can take this initiative to unprecedented levels,” he said.
Having dedicated years to this cause, Hussamuddin recognised that his time at the helm might be limited. This was why he hoped the government would genuinely support this movement.
“The support we currently receive is modest, despite this being an international initiative with immense potential. It is time to elevate World Quran Hour to the global stage,” he added.
This year, World #QuranHour 2025 carried the theme 'Saving the Ummah' to emphasise the importance of unity in upholding the religion of Allah SWT.
The 10th edition of the World #QuranHour 2025 programme brought together thousands of participants through physical attendance at the main venue, live television broadcasts and online access.
Additionally, a total of 1,370 locations across the country, along with 25 locations in 19 other countries, registered for this year's event.
