Housewife claims rat remains found in popular brand’s canned spaghetti sauce
The mother of six revealed that while her children did not consume the food, she experienced nausea and vomiting about five minutes after tasting a small amount of the sauce.

PUTRAJAYA – A housewife’s plan to prepare breakfast for her children was disrupted after she discovered a foreign object, believed to be the remains of a rat, in a can of spaghetti sauce from a well-known brand.
Speaking to Sinar, Rohaniza Nawawi stated that the canned sauce was purchased from a popular supermarket near her home in Kedah approximately three weeks prior.
She described noticing the object while scooping the sauce into a bowl.
“I prepared the sauce as usual before spotting what appeared to be a hairy and fleshy foreign object inside it,” she said.
The mother of six revealed that while her children did not consume the food, she experienced nausea and vomiting about five minutes after tasting a small amount of the sauce.
“I did not seek treatment at a clinic or hospital, but instead took traditional herbal medicine before recovering shortly after,” she added.
Following the incident, Rohaniza lodged a formal complaint with the Food Safety and Quality Programme under the Health Ministry, providing all relevant information and evidence.
However, she claimed she was informed that the complaint fell outside the programme’s jurisdiction—an explanation that left her frustrated.
Rohaniza expressed her disappointment, arguing that issues involving food hygiene and public safety should be treated with the utmost seriousness.
“I question the cleanliness standards of the company’s factory in Petaling Jaya and hope a further investigation will be carried out,” she said.
She also added that the response she received appeared to dismiss consumer rights and safety.
“Justice for consumers seems to be taken lightly, even though this issue involves significant potential health risks,” she said.
