Burnout now grips students, Minister warns
This phenomenon is no longer limited to working professionals; students as young as those in primary and secondary schools are beginning to exhibit signs of emotional and physical exhaustion.

SHAH ALAM - Burnout, once considered a workplace issue, now increasingly affects students.
Even those in primary and secondary schools display signs of emotional and physical exhaustion.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, addressing societal challenges, cited the growing demand for mental health support.
"Students, in particular, experience burnout. While schools offer counsellors, many prefer to speak with someone neutral, someone who can provide guidance," she said at Karangkraf headquarters here on Tuesday.
She detailed the role of One-Stop Social Support Centre (PSSS), a one-stop support centre designed to meet mental health needs.
This initiative provides professional counselling not just for students, but for office workers, doctors, nurses and the broader community.
"PSSS offers a safe space for individuals to open up, a resource often needed when people are hesitant to confide in their own counsellors," she said.
Nancy also stressed the importance of self-awareness regarding mental health.
"Often, individuals are unaware of their need for help until they engage in conversation.
"Counsellor assessments and follow-ups can reveal underlying emotions and thoughts," she said.
Discussing the Ministry’s Ramadan initiatives, Nancy acknowledged the demanding schedules her team faced.
Yet, she commended the widespread spirit of generosity among Malaysians.
"Ramadan fosters a collaborative atmosphere. People readily offer assistance.
"Our Ministry frequently acts as a liaison, connecting donors with those in need.
"Many lack direct contact with vulnerable groups, and we facilitate these connections," she added.
She praised the financial generosity of Malaysians during Ramadan.
"This period inspires a desire to give, with people seeking spiritual and emotional rewards," she said.
