SHAH ALAM - As Ramadan came to a close, a unique initiative emerged within the Malaysian gaming community, proving that technology and faith can go hand in hand.

In an unprecedented move, content creator Cikgu Zydd organised the World #QuranHour event within the popular online game Roblox, garnering overwhelming support from both local and international users.

“This programme was well received by both the local and international Roblox community under the theme #savingtheummah. Surah Al-Saff was chosen for the tadabbur session,” Cikgu Zydd said in a TikTok post.

World #QuranHour is a global movement aimed at uniting Muslims in reading, understanding and reflecting on the Quran for an hour at a designated time. This year, it was held physically at several mosques on March 25 between 12 noon and 1pm.

This initiative, traditionally held in mosques and community spaces, took an innovative turn by leveraging the virtual world of Roblox, making it accessible to a younger audience in an engaging and interactive way.

The event featured Quranic recitations, including a soothing recitation by young participant Rifqah Zafirah. The immersive game server, designed to resemble a religious gathering, created an atmosphere that resonated deeply with participants.

Many users, including those unfamiliar with video games, expressed interest in joining future sessions after witnessing the success of this initiative.

Previously, the Malaysian Roblox community had gained attention for hosting virtual solidarity events for Palestine. Their latest effort in commemorating Nuzul Quran through the World #QuranHour has further solidified their role in merging technology with faith-based learning.

The initiative has been widely praised, with many believing it could pave the way for more religious and educational events to be hosted through gaming platforms.

The positive response highlights the potential of digital spaces in fostering meaningful discussions and spiritual growth, demonstrating that gaming can be more than just entertainment—it can also be a medium for learning and community building.
