Bolt offers one of the lowest commission rates, promising better earnings for drivers
Since its debut, Bolt has paid out over RM22.8 million to drivers, strengthening its commitment to improving income opportunities in the ride-hailing sector.

KUALA LUMPUR – E-hailing platform Bolt entered the Malaysian market with one of the lowest commission rates, set at 15 per cent lower than the industry standard of 20 per cent, allowing drivers to keep a larger portion of their earnings.
Since its debut, Bolt has paid out over RM22.8 million to drivers, strengthening its commitment to improving income opportunities in the ride-hailing sector.
"In Malaysia e-hailing companies, the maximum commission rate that they can charge is 20 per cent.
"When we launched, we launched with 15 per cent commission rate that is flat, making it very easy for the partners to calculate what they are earning," he said when met at Bolt’s Aidilfitri Open House, here, recently.
Unlike competitors that default to automatic ride acceptance, he said Bolt also gave drivers full control by allowing manual trip selection, ensuring they can accept or reject rides based on their preferences.
Bolt also prioritised flexibility, giving partner drivers full control over the trips they accepted, empowering them to optimise their schedules and earnings.
Drivers have the freedom to manually select trips, ensuring they can choose the rides that best aligned with their preferences and availability.
The company has also introduced a toll-inclusive fare feature, a first in Malaysia’s e-hailing market, eliminating surprises for passengers by displaying the full cost upfront.
"With over 200 tolls nationwide, this transparency improves the experience for both riders and drivers," he added.
Looking ahead, Bolt planned to enhance compensation for drivers picking up far-distance passengers, addressing a common pain point in the industry.

Afzan pointed out that they recognised the main priority for drivers, which was getting passengers from point A to point B efficiently and being fairly rewarded for it.
He said to further support drivers, Bolt offers an RM200 activation bonus for completing 30 rides within 60 days, helping offset Public Service Vehicle licensing costs.
The platform, he said also ran daily engagement campaigns, enabling drivers to earn consistently without long-hour commitments.
"Again, all of this comes from driver feedback. We’re listening and we’re taking action. On the value proposition side for drivers and passengers, we understand what they want," he said.
He added that by prioritising flexibility, fair earnings and driver feedback, Bolt aimed to reshape Malaysia’s e-hailing landscape with a more equitable model.
