SHAH ALAM – PKR Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar today walked alongside members of the Malaysian Bar in their march, championing judicial independence and voicing serious concerns over recent allegations of interference in the judiciary.

In a statement, Nurul Izzah said the situation has been worsened by the leak of a police report filed by a judge’s aide, along with the circulation of what is believed to be minutes from a Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) meeting.

"These allegations must be investigated transparently to restore the people's trust in the judiciary,” she said.

To address this, Nurul Izzah proposed the establishment of an independent tribunal comprising five senior judges to investigate the claims thoroughly.

On June 12, a senior judge reportedly directed his aide to file a police report after Malaysiakini contacted him for comments regarding allegations of judicial interference at a JAC meeting held in May.

The report was leaked two weeks later.

Subsequently, on Saturday, social media users began sharing what appeared to be leaked minutes from that very JAC meeting.

The content supported not only the claims against the judge but also pointed to possible broader interference within the judiciary.

Nurul Izzah stressed the importance of preserving the sanctity of the judicial system, warning against both external and internal meddling.

"As such, anyone appointed a Chief Justice, Court of Appeal president, chief judge of Malaya and chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak, must not just be qualified but have the highest moral integrity to carry out that responsibility," she said.

She further stated that efforts to enhance the transparency and accountability of the judiciary align with PKR’s reformist ideals.

Until now, only nine PKR MPs led by former deputy president Rafizi Ramli, had publicly raised alarm over the judiciary.

Their statements drew internal backlash, with some within the party calling for disciplinary action against the group.
