Malaysia’s Koryo Taekwondo Club heads to South Korea for 18th World Taekwondo Culture Expo
The Koryo Taekwondo Club officially sent off its team of athletes to the event taking place from July 17 to July 22 at the globally renowned Taekwondowon in Muju.
SHAH ALAM - Malaysia’s Koryo Taekwondo Club has set off for Muju, South Korea, to take part in the 18th World Taekwondo Culture Expo, marking their long-awaited return to the international arena after nearly 10 years.
The Koryo Taekwondo Club officially sent off its team of athletes to the event taking place from July 17 to July 22 at the globally renowned Taekwondowon in Muju.
The club’s participation marked a major milestone in its journey to mould world-class talent, with the programme specially curated to give young Malaysian athletes the opportunity to represent both their club and country in an international arena.
Coach Sharizman Riduan, who was honoured with the Malaysia Taekwondo Coach Award, led the team as they departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, last night.
“This programme is specially designed for athletes to represent the club and the country on the international stage, providing exposure that will enable them to compete and grow into world-class athletes,” the club’s management said.
This was not Koryo Taekwondo Club’s first time at the global event. In 2016, they competed in the World Taekwondo Expo and earned widespread praise from fellow participants.
That year, the Expo featured athletes from 15 nations and Koryo emerged with top-ranking medals, cementing their reputation as one of the best in the field.
The 2025 edition of the Expo promised not only fierce competition, but also a rich cultural experience for all attendees.
Alongside the championship, participating athletes, parents and teachers were scheduled to enjoy a special Taekwondo performance and a guided tour of the Taekwondowon facility.
Taekwondowon, often referred to as the global hub of Taekwondo, is a training and cultural centre dedicated to the martial art’s heritage and advancement. Its selection as the host venue highlighted the Expo’s prestige and significance in the global Taekwondo community.
The club’s return to this international stage demonstrated both its resilience and commitment to athlete development, reigniting hopes for another successful outing.
