Car destroyed in fire on Penang Bridge
The cause of the fire is still under investigation

GEORGE TOWN – A car was almost completely destroyed after catching fire at Kilometre 6.8 of the Penang Bridge heading north early Wednesday morning.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department's Assistant Director of Operations John Sagun Francis said they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 7.04am.
A team of nine firefighters, along with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit from the Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station, was dispatched to the scene located about eight kilometres from the station.

“Upon arrival at 7.20am, the fire was found to have engulfed a Perodua Myvi.
“The blaze consumed nearly the entire vehicle, with an estimated 90 per cent destruction. No victims were involved in the incident,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
He added that the fire was fully brought under control within five minutes and extinguishing operations concluded at 7.47am.
“Overhaul works were also carried out before the scene was handed over to the Fire Investigation Officer (FIO) for further action. The cause of the fire is still under investigation,” he said.
