SHAH ALAM – It is not every day a teenager takes her school woes straight to the top, but when you've been holding it in for five months, patience runs thin.

A 16-year-old secondary school student recently turned to social media platform Threads tagging Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to ask for help directly.

Her complaint: The school toilets had been without running water for at least five to six months, leaving them smelly, dirty and utterly unusable, especially for female students during their periods.

In her viral post that went viral, the teen described having to return home just to relieve herself or change sanitary pad, claiming that repeated complaints made to teachers were met with remarks about unpaid parent-teacher association fees.

“I want to report about my school toilets. There’s no water for at least five to six months. It’s so smelly and I had to go back home to relieve myself.

“The girls at the school had to go home and change pads during their menstrual cycles because the school toilets are so smelly, dirty and have no water,” she wrote.

She did not hold back on the details either, lamenting that the flush systems were broken, the toilets were too smelly and that at one point, students were told to avoid the main toilets because of too many visitors only to be redirected to another set of even filthier, long-abandoned facilities.

“Please take action, Sir. I’m begging you,” she pleaded in the post.

Whether it was the urgency of the problem or the boldness of her direct appeal, the post quickly drew attention.

When contacted, the teen confirmed that action was taken almost immediately after the complaint went viral.

“Water is coming and the toilets are clean now,” she said.
