KUALA LUMPUR – As Malaysia prepares to mark its 68th National Day, Malaysia #QuranHour 2025 brought together Malaysians in a powerful one-hour Quranic reflection themed “Merdeka Dengan Rasa”, held at Masjid Negara and broadcast live nationwide.

Now in its 11th edition, the programme centred on values of empathy, justice and spiritual leadership, with reflections drawn from Surah Al-Saff, Surah Ali ‘Imran and Surah Al-Balad.

The event began at noon with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and verses 1–5 of Surah Al-Baqarah, followed by tadabbur sessions on the chosen surahs.

Organised by the Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation (WUIF), this year marks the 10th year of the global World #QuranHour movement.

WUIF chief executive officer Marhaini Yusoff emphasised the initiative as a step towards the larger vision of ‘1500 Hijrah: Pembinaan Wilayah Ekonomi Islam’ and a movement to foster a culture of reading, understanding and living the Quran.

She stressed that Malaysia #QuranHour 2025 should serve as a unifying platform for both the people and the government.

The programme received strong support, evidenced by the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, alongside diplomats, muftis, officials and the public.

Malaysia #QuranHour 2025 served as a national reminder for leaders, policymakers, and citizens to embrace empathy and moral leadership, drawing inspiration from past Islamic figures.

The programme highlighted the leadership of Caliph Umar Abdul Aziz as a model of compassionate governance, reinforcing the idea that true leadership lies not in authority, but in serving and protecting the people.

The event also formed part of the official National Day 2025 Programme under the National Day Celebration Main Committee, showing a strong commitment to embed the Quran as a guide in everyday life.

With collective voices from leaders, policymakers, civil servants, and the people, the programme underscored Malaysia’s aspiration to build a Madani nation founded on noble values, empathy, and divine guidance.

In support of this goal, WUIF founder Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub introduced the Rice and Quran Campaign, an initiative inspired by Surah Al-Balad, designed as a practical step to embody the spirit of “Merdeka Dengan Rasa.”

Under the sub-theme “Daripada Keluarga untuk Keluarga” (From Family to Family), a total of 1,200 bags of rice were distributed to underprivileged families, embodying Quranic principles of compassion and social responsibility.

The initiative focused on supporting four key vulnerable groups, the oppressed, the hungry, orphans, and the poor, in alignment with the National Day 2025 theme, “Keluarga Madani, Rakyat Disantuni.”

The programme was supported by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) as main sponsors, with backing from over 20 strategic partners, including Masjid Negara, Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Selangor (PPAS), the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), the Council of Directors of Public Libraries Malaysia (MPAM), Karangkraf, Rasuah Busters, Rumah Ngaji, Karya Bestari, Akademi Sinergi Ikhlas Sdn Bhd, Sahabah Al-Quran, and the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC).
