KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysia #QuranHour series, now in its 11th year, continues to stand out for its unique approach in encouraging people to love and engage with the Quran.

The New Zealand Mufti Sheikh Mohammad Amir attended the programme for the first time this year and praised the smooth flow of the one-hour event.

He observed that the session was filled with Quran recitations by different qaris, complemented by translations of the meanings, which kept the participants attentive and engaged.

“I feel this is a very interesting programme and has the potential to develop further while raising awareness among Muslims about the Quran.

“They can feel and reflect upon themselves while studying every verse of this holy book to prepare for the hereafter, insyaAllah.

“Of course, I would be honoured and delighted if it could be implemented across the globe, including New Zealand, one day,” he said when met after the programme held at the National Mosque today.

The programme was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar and Federal Territories Mufti Ahmad Fauwaz Fadzil.

Foreign diplomats were among the guests, including Senegalese Ambassador Abdoulaye Barro, Turkish Ambassador Emir Salim Yuksel, Jordanian Ambassador Dr Ismael Maaytah and Egyptian Ambassador Karim Mohamed Elsadat Abdelkarim.

Malaysia #QuranHour 2025 organisers Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation (WUIF) founder Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub and its Chief Executive Officer Marhaini Yusoff were also present.

Reflecting on his experiences in Malaysia, Sheikh Mohammad Amir remarked that the country is widely recognised for its religious events, which could also be promoted as part of Islamic tourism.

“I have been to Malaysia many times to attend lectures and conferences. This country is indeed well known for various religious programmes.

“There are many positive things to be found in Malaysia as well, and we, as foreign visitors, always feel that this country is excellent and offers much to benefit from,” he added.
