Here are five easy tricks to try the next time your iPhone gives you that dreaded storage warning.

1. Offload Unused Apps

We all have apps that we rarely use. Instead of permanently deleting them, you can "offload" them.  This removes the app itself from your phone but keeps all its data and documents, so you can easily reinstall it later as if it never left.

How to do it:

  • Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage
  • Select the app you want to offload
  • Tap Offload App

The app's icon will still appear on your home screen, but with a small cloud icon next to its name, indicating it’s stored in the cloud.

2. Optimise Photos with iCloud

If your camera roll is consuming most of your storage, iCloud Photos can help.

It allows you to store your full-resolution photos and videos in the cloud while keeping smaller, space-saving versions on your device.

How to do it:

  • Go to Settings > Your Name > iCloud > Photos
  • Turn on iCloud Photos
  • Select Optimise iPhone Storage

This ensures your iPhone breathes easier without losing a single memory. The full-resolution images stay in iCloud, while your phone keeps lighter versions that take up less space.

3. Clear Your Browser's Cache

Your browser, like Safari, can quietly accumulate a surprising amount of data from your browsing history and temporary files. Clearing this cache is a quick and effective way to free up space.

How to do it:

  • Go to Settings > Safari
  • Tap Clear History and Website Data

This single action wipes out all unnecessary browsing history, cookies and temporary files.

4. Clear app cache

Some apps, particularly social media apps like TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, are notorious for building up a massive cache that hogs your phone’s storage. The most effective way to clear this is a quick reinstall.

How to do it:

  • Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage
  • Choose the app with the biggest cache and tap Delete App
  • Reinstall the app from the App Store

As long as you remember your login details, you'll get everything back, minus the unnecessary clutter!

5. Bonus: Backup to an External Drive

If your iCloud storage is maxed out or your Wi-Fi is slow, a USB flash drive that connects directly to your iPhone can be a lifesaver.

This allows you to quickly and safely back up all your photos and videos, instantly freeing up storage without having to delete anything.

So the next time your iPhone says "Storage Full," don't panic. With these tricks, you can keep snapping, recording and scrolling without losing a single memory.
