2026 Budget: Malaysia to introduce Lemon Law
The move is part of broader efforts to ensure consumers are better protected from defective or poor-quality products.

SHAH ALAM - The government will amend the Consumer Protection Act to include the Lemon Law, which aims to strengthen safeguards for consumers who purchase defective goods such as cars.
This was announced by Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in tabling the 2026 Budget, today.
The move, he said was part of broader efforts to ensure consumers were better protected from defective or poor-quality products.
Anwar who is also the Prime Minister said the amendment would come after the enactment of the Consumer Credit Act.
“After the enactment of the Consumer Credit Act, the government will amend the Consumer Protection Act to include elements of the Lemon Law to safeguard the rights of consumers who are often unfairly treated,” he said.
