SHAH ALAM - Malaysia is set to welcome global leaders, policymakers and industry experts for the Global Skills Forum (GSF) 2025, which will focus on advancing workforce development and innovation through stronger private sector participation.
The two-day event will take place from Oct 22 at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia will host the Global Skills Forum 2025 in collaboration with the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp), the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the International Organisation of Employers (IOE), with support from the Human Resources Ministry.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim is scheduled to officiate the opening ceremony alongside ILO director-general Gilbert F. Houngbo and Human Resources Minister Steven Sim.
The Global Skills Forum 2025 emphasised the vital role of employers and industries in shaping the future of workforce development, highlighting how the private sector can drive training priorities, accelerate large-scale innovation and support long-term sustainable economic growth.
This year’s forum was also organised as part of the Asean Year of Skills (AYOS) 2025, an initiative led by the Human Resources Ministry through HRD Corp in conjunction with Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship.
AYOS serves as a regional platform designed to close skill gaps, promote cross-border talent mobility and strengthen collaboration between public and private sectors across Asean nations.
Carrying the theme "The Role of the Private Sector in Skills Development: Driving Innovation and Impact", the two-day event will bring together heads of government, ministers, employers, policymakers, labour agencies, academia and international development partners.
Discussions at the forum will explored a range of strategic issues, including digital transformation, the green economy, artificial intelligence and the rise of new industries that are reshaping the world of work.
Building on the success of the 2024 edition in Geneva, the Global Skills Forum 2025 in Kuala Lumpur served as a key milestone for both Asean and the global community, which marked an important step in redefining skills development as a driver of competitiveness, resilience and inclusive prosperity.
