Sabah state election: 'We don’t want a change of govt every term' – Mazlan
The Sabah state election was not merely a contest to win votes, but a vital effort to strengthen the voice of the people through the unity of local political parties.

KOTA KINABALU - Sabah must not remain trapped in a cycle of political instability that results in a change of government every term, but instead focus fully on stabilising its administration to ensure continuous and smooth state development.
This view was expressed by head of the Lumadan division of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Datuk Mazlan Joehari Manan who emphasised that political stability was a crucial foundation for bringing real progress to the people of Sabah.
“We no longer want shaky politics. We don’t want a change of government every term. The people are tired, only through political stability can development progress smoothly.
“Only with stability can the people of Sabah truly enjoy the benefits of progress,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
Mazlan, who is also the Special Officer to the Chief Minister said the Sabah state election was not merely a contest to win votes, but a vital effort to strengthen the voice of the people through the unity of local political parties.
“This is the time to strengthen the coalition of local parties so that the voice of Sabahans can resonate strongly in both the State Assembly and Parliament. We can no longer be taken lightly,” he added.
Mazlan said the state government under Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) remained committed to implementing a progressive development agenda based on the Sabah Maju Jaya direction, which prioritised balanced growth across urban, rural, island and interior areas.
“Sabah must move forward with fair development that benefits all citizens, regardless of location,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of human capital development, particularly to ensure that young Sabahans have opportunities to enhance their knowledge, skills and living standards without having to migrate elsewhere for employment.
“We don’t want to see our young people leaving Sabah because of a lack of opportunities.
“The GRS government has started creating opportunities here at home. We must not take missteps that could hinder this effort,” he said.
Mazlan added that the state government was also focusing on strengthening the people’s economy through various initiatives that support farmers, fishermen, small traders and young entrepreneurs to ensure sustainable growth.
“Sabah must rise with a strong people’s economy so that every family can live more comfortably. We help the poor and we uplift those who succeed so they can inspire others,” he said.
He also assured that the implementation of basic infrastructure projects such as roads, electricity supply, clean water and high-speed internet will continue to be closely monitored to ensure that the benefits reach all citizens starting next year.
“We will make sure these infrastructure projects are no longer just promises, but realities. Starting in 2026, the people will begin to feel the results,” he said.
Mazlan further stressed that the state government remained firm in defending Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) through a mature and diplomatic approach.
“Sabah’s rights cannot be taken lightly. We want our fair share, we want Sabah’s dignity restored to where it belongs! This is our collective struggle, not just one person’s,” he said.
In that regard, Mazlan urged the people of Sabah to reject divisive politics and continue placing their trust in GRS to ensure the continuity of the state’s development.
“Fellow Sabahans, let us unite with determination and full commitment to reject Warisan, which lacks direction and leave Barisan Nasional as part of history.
“Now is the time for us to stand with GRS to empower the people’s agenda for a more progressive and prosperous Sabah,” he said.
