SHAH ALAM – Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth Treasurer Datuk Shahrul Nasrun Kamarudin is facing growing outrage from the public following his ex-wife’s explosive allegations of infidelity and leading a double life.

The scandal has triggered widespread scrutiny of his integrity and suitability for leadership.

As the controversy continues to dominate social media, platforms such as TikTok, Threads and Instagram have been inundated with criticism and intense debate over Shahrul’s alleged behaviour and his role in BN Youth.

On TikTok, user @Poppy attempted to strike a neutral tone, saying, “I think it is in the best interest that personal matters be kept private, even in a divorce, both who were once loving husband and wife. Hope all are resolved.”

However, others were quick to disagree. User @NasiUlam countered, “He is a politician from a conservative party, so his behaviour comes across as quite hypocritical. People in his position are expected to set an example and lead by integrity.”

When @Bdbdbong questioned whether the criticism would be acceptable if he belonged to a liberal party, @NasiUlam replied, “No, they are public figures. One preaches the exact opposite of their actions, therefore appears as hypocrites.” Another user, @Sagtiya, agreed simply, saying, “Exactly.”

The outrage was even stronger on Threads. User @t.a.ta_ condemned Shahrul’s reported behaviour, writing, “A man that cannot control his lust cannot lead anything. Whatever Shahrul Nasrun is doing as BN Youth Treasurer right now, I hope everything fails. How can you be a leader or even a politician if you cannot control your lust.”

Another Threads user, @these_wonderwall, slammed the party for allowing Shahrul to remain in position, saying, “It is crazy, the fact that he is still in Umno says what kind of administration it is. This is beyond embarrassing and disgusting.”

The sentiment was echoed on Instagram, where @iesya.toh wrote, “The damage is done! The people do not trust him anymore to be a YB.” User @siroent urged the party to reconsider its leadership choices, saying, “Do not tarnish Umno's image by promoting these types of people to be a leader.” Another, @adz_ra, voiced disgust over Shahrul’s continued leadership role, adding, “It is disgusting that this type of person can be a Youth Leader. There are lots of other candidates who are better and ‘clean’ than him, disgusting.”

The online firestorm erupted after Shahrul’s ex-wife, Datin Amyera Zainal accused him of hiring prostitutes, subscribing to OnlyFans and keeping a collection of sex toys.

In her Instagram Stories on Oct 28, Amyera alleged that Shahrul led a “double life” and used a secret rented space near his friend’s office to meet women during working hours.

“He wanted to prove to netizens that he was looking for a modest and veiled woman, just to look good. In reality, he likes to subscribe to OnlyFans,” she claimed.

She said she decided to go public after people close to him allegedly tried to paint her as the villain. “He just wants people to think I am the bad one because I am sexy. That is his only motive, but wrong move,” she said.

Shahrul has since denied the allegations involving his fiancee, Meerween Hanees Natasha Meeat and expressed regret that the issue had become a public spectacle.

“I want to stress that my fiancee, Meerween Hanees Natasha has no connection whatsoever with the issues currently going viral. Our relationship only began after I was officially divorced and held the status of a single man,” he wrote on Instagram.

The BN Youth Treasurer also acknowledged past mistakes but lamented that private matters had been made public.

“As a human being, I am not free from making mistakes. I do not deny my shortcomings and what happened in my past marriage is a valuable life lesson,” he said.

However, despite his apology, netizens continue to question whether Shahrul’s position in BN Youth remains tenable amid the growing controversy, with many calling for him to step down.
