KUANTAN – Pahang currently has more than 444,000 hectares of Malay reserve land, compared to 222,000 hectares recorded in 1955.

Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail shared the figure during the Town Hall Rakyat programme organised by Sinar Harian in collaboration with the Pahang State Strategic Communications Unit at Dewan Datuk Seri Abdul Manan Ismail here on Tuesday.

He said the increase over 70 years reflected the state government’s commitment to protecting and preserving Malay reserve land across Pahang.

“Numbers don’t lie. You can verify them at the Land and Mines Office.

“So if anyone claims that Malay reserve land in Pahang is shrinking, don’t believe it,” he said.

Responding to a question from host Azhar Sulaiman about the Pahang State Enforcement Unit (UPNP), Wan Rosdy said Pahang was the only state with such a unit, which was responsible for enforcing action against illegal land encroachment.

He said UPNP, established in 2019, was tasked with surveillance, investigations, raids and prosecuting those who trespassed on state land.

“Since UPNP began operations, we have conducted 23 enforcement missions to clear encroached areas involving 3,366 acres across Pahang.

“This includes Ops Sekat in Raub, where since its implementation on April 25, 2024, a total of 129 individuals have been detained and 12 cases have been brought to court, resulting in convictions,” he said.

Wan Rosdy added that the establishment of UPNP had helped the state government address revenue leakage caused by illegal land activities.
