Hoya Malaysia spotlights breakthrough UKM study confirming effectiveness of MiYOSMART lenses in children
The week-long programme, organised in conjunction with World Sight Day 2025, provided complimentary eye screenings for children aged five to 12 at more than 800 participating Eye Care Professional Optical Stores across the country.

SHAH ALAM – Hoya Malaysia has wrapped up its nationwide 'A Million Visions' campaign, reinforcing the company’s long-standing dedication to protecting the eyesight of Malaysia’s younger generation.
The week-long programme, organised in conjunction with World Sight Day 2025, provided complimentary eye screenings for children aged five to 12 at more than 800 participating Eye Care Professional Optical Stores across the country.

Built on the belief that every child deserves clear and healthy vision, the initiative sought to highlight the growing concern of childhood myopia and the urgency of early detection.
Through the campaign, Hoya Malaysia encouraged parents to prioritise eye health by making professional screenings more accessible and affordable nationwide.
Hoya Malaysia Managing Director Lew Chee Quin said for over three decades, Hoya has worked to improve Malaysians’ vision, emphasising that clear eyesight is essential not just for seeing, but also for opportunity, education and overall quality of life.
"For more than 30 years, Hoya has been committed to helping Malaysians see clearly. Vision is not just about eyesight; it’s about opportunity, education, and quality of life. Every child deserves the chance to see the world clearly.
"Through our ‘A Million Visions’ campaign, we aim to promote early eye checks and raise awareness nationwide.
“When we create awareness and take early steps together, we’re protecting their future and not just their eyesight," she said.
As a key highlight marking the conclusion of the campaign, Hoya Malaysia also spotlighted a newly published clinical study titled 'Effectiveness of DIMS Lens in Slowing Myopia Progression among Malay Schoolchildren'.
Conducted by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), it is the first Malaysian research assessing the effectiveness of Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments (DIMS) lens technology among Malay primary schoolchildren.
The year-long study was carried out in Kuala Lumpur, involving 42 children aged seven to 12 who were randomly assigned to wear either MiYOSMART lenses with DIMS technology or standard single-vision lenses for full-time daily use.
Study Findings
Findings showed that MiYOSMART lenses significantly slowed down myopia progression:
After 12 months, children using DIMS lenses recorded only a –0.16 D shift in myopia and a +0.07 mm increase in axial length—a much slower rate compared to those wearing single-vision lenses.
Overall, researchers observed an average 65 per cent reduction in myopia progression, with children adapting comfortably to wearing the lenses for about 16 hours a day.
MiYOSMART, created in collaboration with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, is backed by extensive global studies. The Malaysian research provides further local evidence confirming its effectiveness for school-aged children in the country.
“Together with our optical partners, Hoya Malaysia remains deeply committed to ensuring children receive early and proper vision screening.
“Through the ‘A Million Visions’ campaign, we are strengthening our efforts to reach schools and communities nationwide, offering our expertise to support early detection and proactive myopia prevention,” she added.
