KOTA KINABALU - Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) president Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has secured an unofficial victory in the Sulaman state seat, reaffirming his long-held political stronghold in the area.

The early results signalled not only a continued endorsement of Hajiji’s leadership but also growing momentum for GRS, which has accumulated nine seats based on the latest unofficial count.

The surge of support for the coalition was also reflected across eight other constituencies, including Banggi, Membakut, Pitasan, Kemabong, Apas, Kuamut and Sungai Manila.

Sulaman recorded a five-cornered contest, with Hajiji challenged by a mix of young and first-time contenders: Dr Shahnon Rizal Thaijuddin (BN), Mokhtar Hussin (Warisan), Tiaminah @ Siti Aminah Ele (PN) and Pajudin Nordin (PIS).

Hajiji has maintained his hold on Sulaman since 1990, having won the seat with a majority of 3,099 votes during the three-cornered fight in the previous state election.

Across Sabah, 882 polling centres opened at 7.30am, with 3,558 polling streams.
