Sinar Harian refreshes print with new portals under one roof

SHAH ALAM - Sinar Harian is bringing together all portals under Sinar Karangkraf into its print edition starting December, offering readers a refreshed newspaper with more comprehensive and diverse content.
Sinar Harian editor-in-chief Zamri Rambli said the newspaper had previously featured only Sinar Plus, Sinar Bestari and Sinar Islam as supplements.
However, three additional portals, which are Sinar Daily, Pop Family and Sinar Varsity, were later included in the print edition to give the newspaper a fresher and more dynamic identity.
"Sinar Daily has been around for four years, but it was only in digital form. Now, to bring in a fresh boost and a new perspective, we are introducing Wednesday as English Day," he said.
He added that two dedicated pages were allocated for reports produced by the Sinar Daily editorial team.
As for Pop Family and Sinar Varsity, Zamri said they were the newest lifestyle and education portals to be introduced in the print edition.
Pop Family is published every Sunday, while Sinar Varsity comes out every Tuesday.
Comprehensive coverage
Sinar Daily editor Tasnim Lokman said the introduction of the print version in Sinar Harian marked a significant step forward in expanding the platform’s reach.
She said the first print edition of Sinar Daily, carrying the tagline "fearless and bold", was published last Wednesday.
Tasnim shared that Sinar Daily, which would soon enter its fifth year on Jan 1, 2026, began as a fully digital platform before transitioning into print (weekly).
"Usually, print organisations move towards digital, but we started as digital and have now entered the print world.
"This is a major achievement and proves that print media is still relevant," she said.
She added that the weekly English reports would include national issues, government policies and global developments relevant to Malaysia.
Topics such as social issues, the cost of living, health and sports remained within Sinar Daily’s focus, supported by comprehensive coverage across print and digital.
Tasnim said selected reports would also include video elements and the platform continued to carry Sinar Harian’s identity through the voice of the people while highlighting solution-focused perspectives.
New portal
Sinar Varsity editor Wan Nor Rosida Wan Hamad said the portal continued expanding its role as a platform for the campus community to present issues, activities, lifestyle features and inspiration.
She said Sinar Varsity aimed to be a well-rounded and sincere discussion partner for students in public and private universities as well as in Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions.
"The Sinar Varsity section in the Sinar Harian newspaper consists of exclusive coverage, campus lifestyle features, education analyses, inspirational stories and highlights of campus activities.
"With the tagline ‘Campus Now, Nation Next!’, Sinar Varsity is hoped to inspire university students who will one day lead the country," she added.
Meanwhile, Pop Family editor Syahirah Mokhtazar said Pop Family was launched as a hub for families, especially modern Malaysian families seeking to strengthen parent–teen relationships in an increasingly digital world.
She said Pop Family was designed to narrow the generational gap between parents and children, who were among the most active social media users, while also offering them a space to express their views.
Syahirah added that upcoming plans included a podcast discussing current issues through insights from experts, parents and teenagers.
She shared that their target audience consisted of teenagers aged 13 to 21 and parents aged 30 to 49.
She said she hoped to reach more readers and bring the platform closer to family communities through the bilingual version of Pop Family.
