After Perlis crisis, Pas Youth insists Pas should lead PN
“A traitor cannot be a friend. The weak cannot lead."

SHAH ALAM – Pas Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden has proposed that Pas take over the leadership of Perikatan Nasional (PN), including appointing the Pas president as PN chairman and reviving both “PN 2.0” and Muafakat Nasional (MN) 2.0.
He said the political crisis in Perlis had exposed PN component Bersatu’s failure to control its state assemblymen, particularly those who signed statutory declarations (SDs) rejecting the leadership of Pas Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.
Afnan claimed that despite calls for firm action, similar to the disciplinary measures taken by Pas against its own members, Bersatu had yet to act against those involved.
“Instead, a name was even put forward for the Menteri Besar post. No instructions were issued, yet no action was taken.
“Both amount to consent. An ally who cannot control his subordinates is a weak ally. An ally who brings down another ally is a treacherous ally,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday.
Earlier, Sinar Harian reported that although Bersatu assemblyman Abu Bakar Hamzah was appointed the 12th Perlis Menteri Besar on Sunday, the development was seen as straining relations between Pas and Bersatu within PN.
Several Pas leaders subsequently issued warnings, including vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, who posted a “crack waiting to split” message on social media.
Pas Central Election Director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor also appeared to suggest a possible revival of cooperation with Umno under MN in preparation for the 16th General Election (GE16).
Last Wednesday, Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang announced that the party had terminated the membership of three Perlis assemblymen — Saad Seman (Chuping), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong) and Mohd Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji) — with immediate effect for rejecting Shukri’s leadership.
PN was formed in February 2020 following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government and was initially led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. The coalition later evolved into a formal political entity involving Pas, Bersatu, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and other parties, and contested the 15th General Election.
Commenting further, Afnan, who is also the Alor Setar MP, said a “treacherous ally” should not continue to be treated as a partner.
“A traitor cannot be a friend. The weak cannot lead. Those who betray should leave. Those who are weak should step down,” he said.
