SHAH ALAM — Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth leaders have stressed that all decisions made in the name of the coalition must be determined collectively through consensus, following a series of high-profile resignations that have reshaped PN’s leadership landscape.

In a joint statement today, youth leaders from Bersatu, Gerakan and the Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP) said any decision or stance under PN cannot be made unilaterally by any single component party.

Instead, all matters must be referred to, discussed and decided by the PN Supreme Council, in line with Clause 13 of the coalition’s constitution.

“While all component parties may express their respective views, the official position of PN must be decided through consensus among all component parties,” the statement said.

The statement was issued in response to the resignation of Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as PN chairman, a move that has triggered further leadership exits within the coalition.

The PN Youth Wing also urged leaders at all levels to practise “wise, prudent politics” and to uphold the decorum and ethics of the coalition in order to focus on a broader agenda for public welfare and Malaysia’s future.

The statement was jointly signed by Bersatu Armada chief Hilman Idham, Gerakan National Youth chief Lee Boon Shian and MIPP National Youth chief Justin Prabakaran.

Earlier this morning, Muhyiddin announced that he would step down as PN chairman effective Jan 1, 2026, confirming the decision in a Facebook post.

Following Muhyiddin’s announcement, former Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal also tendered his resignation as PN Johor chairman. The Bukit Kepong assemblyman shared the decision on Facebook, saying it was made in the wake of Muhyiddin’s departure.

“I hereby resign as PN Johor chairman. Losing the MB post, I accepted it; resigning as PN chairman is even easier,” he wrote.

In the latest development, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali announced that he will step down as PN secretary-general effective Jan 1, 2026, noting that he was appointed to the post by Muhyiddin.
