SHAH ALAM – Pas Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden dismisses claims that Perikatan Nasional (PN) is broken, directionless or heading towards collapse as untrue.

He said PN continued to exist, with discussions under way on forming new leadership to fill vacancies left by certain individuals.

He added that the PN leadership at the federal, state and divisional or constituency levels remained intact and continued to function as usual.

Afnan said the Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu state governments were still operating normally as no Bersatu leaders had been dropped or had resigned from the respective state administrations.

“Pas and Bersatu members of Parliament are still in contact with one another. Some send private messages, some invite each other to kenduri, and others offer condolences over the loss of family members.

“Some even discuss questions for the upcoming Dewan Rakyat sitting and advise each other on how to calm the situation.

“It may be ‘noisy’ for a day or two, which is normal. During conflict, emotions run high and people express feelings, criticism and opinions, but once things cool down, apologies are made and ukhuwah is restored,” he said in a Facebook post on Friday.

Afnan claimed he had never written that PN would collapse, but instead proposed that the opposition coalition be preserved and strengthened.

“That was the Pas Youth motion approved at the last Pas Muktamar. Public expectations of PN are very high after their hopes in Pakatan Harapan (PH) collapsed.

“When ideas involving PN and Muafakat Nasional (MN) were raised, many voiced support. Many hope that this ummah unity can genuinely be rebuilt for the interests of Islam and the Malay majority, while safeguarding minority communities.

“It cannot be denied that one way to weaken PH, particularly DAP, is through ummah unity. They are thriving now because Malay Muslims are not united. DAP and PH will continue working to prevent unity so they can remain in power and do as they please,” he claimed.

He added that PN was expected to emerge stronger and more dynamic with the formation of new leadership.

“God willing, the long-awaited ummah unity will eventually be realised. That is the essence of Islamic politics, politics that unites rather than divides. The condition is to discard personal agendas and place the ummah’s agenda above all else,” he said.
