KUALA LUMPUR – Umno has been urged to reopen its doors to former leaders who still care about the party, even if some of them have joined other political parties.

Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh stressed that the party would only regain its strength if its members were willing to forgive one another and reunite.

“I want to appeal to the party’s top leadership enough of us quarrelling among ourselves. If we keep talking about hurt feelings, the Malays will never be united.

“That is why, with full humility, I appeal for Umno’s doors to remain open to those who love the party, even though some of them are currently suspended, expelled or have already joined other parties.

“It is still not too late (to give them another chance), as the Umno president mentioned yesterday when he said ‘welcome back’ to these individuals (as observers),” he said while delivering his policy speech at the Umno Youth Assembly at the World Trade Centre (WTC) here on Thursday.
