KUCHING - Police investigations found no evidence of third-party involvement in the killing of a married couple found dead at their home in Sri Aman on Jan 14.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said statements have been recorded from 30 witnesses comprising family members, friends, colleagues and neighbours.

He said police had received chemical and pathology reports from the post-mortem examinations of both victims.

"(Based on our investigation) I can conclude that this case has been completed and the examination of the weapon used found only the DNA of the two victims, with no other foreign DNA.

"We also did not find any signs of a break-in or missing valuables, nor evidence that they were robbed. Therefore, the inference we can make is that the killing involved only the two victims,” he told reporters after attending the Sarawak Police Commissioner’s monthly assembly at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters here this morning.

Zainal said he was confident no further investigation was required, but the case could not yet be classified as no further action (NFA) as police were still awaiting forensic reports on the mobile phones of both victims.

"Witness statements also found that the male victim (the husband), after being transferred to a new school as headmaster, had experienced depression. Perhaps through the forensic reports on their phones, we can find out more and determine the motive,” he said.

On Jan 14, a headmaster and his wife were found dead in their house on Jalan Brayun with serious injuries.
