Terengganu achieves zero hardcore poor
The federal government has implemented various initiatives to ensure the target is achieved, including close collaboration with federal and state agencies.

JERTIH - Efforts by the Madani Government to eradicate hardcore poverty in Terengganu have borne fruit, with the state recording zero cases of hardcore poverty as of last month.
Terengganu Federal Development Department (JPP) director Datuk Abdul Kahar Abdul Latif said all 1,663 families in the list of hardcore poor in the National Poverty Data Bank (eKasih) have been removed from the hardcore poor list following a reassessment based on the Poverty Line Income (PGK) conducted at the end of last year.
"Currently, there are about 30,000 household heads (KIR) in Terengganu still classified as poor, and efforts are ongoing to reduce this number.
"Our target is to reduce the number of poor households by 30 per cent, or about 9,000 families, within the first six months of this year," he told reporters after attending the 2026 Ramadan Ziarah Kasih Programme at the Jabi Civic Hall today.
Abdul Kahar said the federal government has implemented various initiatives to ensure the target is achieved, including close collaboration with federal and state agencies.
"We are working with multiple agencies to address the actual needs of the affected families, including organising income-generating programmes and focusing on the welfare of their children.
"This includes strengthening the education aspect and offering short-term courses that can help families improve their income and move out of the poverty category," he said.
Meanwhile, he said the federal government has spent nearly RM1 million to assist more than 1,000 poor families in the state through the eKasih programme, including initiatives such as the Ziarah Kasih programme held during Ramadan. - BERNAMA
