Family of five, including baby, sleeps in car after father loses job
Once the employer learned that he was a former prisoner, the job slipped from his hands.

SEREMBAN - A family of five, including a five-month-old baby, was forced to sleep in their car for four nights after the father lost his job and could no longer afford to pay the rent for their home.
The situation came to light after the Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council (Mains) shared the family’s story, revealing how the loss of income left them without a place to stay during the month of Ramadan.
According to the council, the father had been working tirelessly to support his family by holding two jobs.

“This father is actually not someone who does not try. He worked two jobs, driving a lorry during the day and helping at a burger stall at night. All of that was for his three young children. One of them is a four-year-old child with autism.
“However, his circumstances changed after his employer learned that he was a former prisoner. One matter from the past returned to punish him. Once the employer learned that he was a former prisoner, the job slipped from his hands. His income disappeared.
“The rented house could no longer be maintained and in the end, the car became their shelter. During Ramadan, imagine a baby sleeping in a car for four nights,” it said.
Eventually, the man sought help directly from the Mains office in the hope of finding a way forward for his family.
The council said its team from the Nilai branch immediately stepped in to assist them.
“Today they are no longer sleeping in the car. The family has been brought to a Mains Transit House temporarily.
“Through the trust of zakat contributions, Mains will also assist with the deposit for a new rental home, rental payments for up to six months and immediate financial assistance so that the small family can stand on their feet again.
“Sometimes we do not see that behind the zakat contributions paid, there is a family that finally finds shelter,” the council said.
Mains also emphasised the importance of community support for vulnerable families, especially those with young children who require proper shelter and protection.
