KUALA SELANGOR - The search for 10-year-old Khairil Izani Khaizalullinordin continues to intensify, with authorities expanding operations across a five-kilometre stretch of waterways in Bandar Puncak Alam after he was feared to have been swept away by strong currents.

Rescue teams began combing the area from Lorong Cakera Purnama 12/30, the location where the boy was reported to have fallen into a drain, before extending the search route towards Taman Industri Alam Jaya.

Operations commander Assistant Fire Superintendent Azreel Izaidi Ahamad said the search strategy is guided by water flow patterns due to the strong currents believed to have carried the victim away.

“The search method is based on the water flow following strong currents believed to have carried the victim away.

“The search is conducted along the water route and we are also examining the possibility of branching flows in several sections, including nearby areas,” he said.

The operation, which involved 19 personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, Water Rescue Team, K9 Unit and police, resumed at 8am after being halted earlier at 4.30am.

Efforts on Wednesday focused on the K9 Unit at Point C, identified as the last known location of the victim.

“The K9 Unit will detect any clues or traces before the search continues to the next area. The operation also involves inspections along culverts and drains in nearby locations,” he said.

Despite repeated checks by rescue personnel and even the victim’s father, no leads have been discovered so far.

Search teams have been carefully combing culverts and drainage systems, while divers from the fire and rescue department conducted operations in deeper sections previously and revisited those areas.

Authorities are also inspecting underground pathways, including manholes, as they continue tracing the water flow route towards the meeting point of a smaller river with Sungai Buloh.

“After the K9 Unit completes its task, they will join other teams to continue combing the area up to the confluence of a small river with Sungai Buloh,” he added.

Diving operations remain dependent on water conditions, with authorities following a structured incident action plan to prioritise search areas.

The incident was reported on Tuesday, when the boy was believed to have fallen into a drain at about 3.30pm and was swept away during heavy rain.

Emergency services received a call at 7.47pm and arrived at the scene shortly after, but the child has yet to be found.
