Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said the party played the biggest role in forming, registering and managing PN since its inception.

SHAH ALAM – Bersatu is unlikely to leave Perikatan Nasional (PN), as the party was the main initiator behind the formation of the coalition, which was founded by its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Its information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said the party also played the biggest role in forming, registering and managing the coalition since its inception.

“It is impossible for Bersatu to leave PN because the idea of forming PN came from Muhyiddin, not Pas or any other party.

“Bersatu drafted the formation and wrote the PN Constitution from scratch. Bersatu handled all registration matters, not Pas.

“In fact, Bersatu also provided funding to manage PN from its establishment up to the 15th General Election (GE15),” he told Sinar.

On Wednesday, 13 Bersatu MPs, in a joint statement, reportedly urged the party to immediately exit or have itself removed from PN, claiming that the coalition no longer holds value.

The statement was signed by Beluran MP Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee; Masjid Tanah MP Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin; Tanah Merah MP Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz; Hulu Terengganu MP Datuk Rosol Wahid; Kangar MP Zakri Hassan; Lumut MP Nordin Ahmad Ismail; and Rompin MP Datuk Abdul Khalib Abdullah.

Others were Sungai Besar MP Datuk Muslimin Yahaya; Mersing MP Muhammad Islahuddin Abas; Sabak Bernam MP Kalam Salan; Ketereh MP Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor; Kulim Bandar Baharu MP Roslan Hashim; and Kubang Pasu MP Datuk Wira Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail.

The 13 Bersatu MPs, who are also facing disciplinary action from the party’s disciplinary board, also called for all political appointments and state-level exco positions involving the party to be reshuffled.

In the same development, Tun Faisal said Bersatu remains committed to PN and will continue strengthening the coalition’s core struggle.

He also stressed that it was not Bersatu that severed ties with Pas, but rather the latter who made that move.

“Bersatu remains committed to contesting under the PN logo. Meanwhile Pas sometimes wants to be with Muafakat Nasional (MN), sometimes with PN and sometimes to use its own logo. This shows Pas is not fully committed to PN,” he said.

He added that preparations for the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections have also been affected due to Pas’ attitude, as well as the PN chairman’s failure to promptly convene relevant meetings.

“Among them are the PN Supreme Council meeting, seat negotiations, electoral pact committee meetings and election preparation meetings. Pas leaders in Johor themselves admitted their preparations were affected,” he said.

However, Tun Faisal stressed that Bersatu remains committed to the struggle and people-focused agenda brought by PN since its formation and supports the aspiration for leadership that represents the voice and aspirations of all Malaysians.
