3 Indonesian children under JKM care reunited with families
State Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim said the three children, aged between one and three years, had been placed under JKM’s protection after they were found to have been neglected since birth.

GEORGE TOWN - Three Indonesian children, who were previously under the care and protection of the Social Welfare Department (JKM), were reunited with the families in Indonesia through the repatriation process at the Penang International Airport today.
State Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim said the three children, aged between one and three years, had been placed under JKM’s protection after they were found to have been neglected since birth.
She said that they had taken various steps to trace their relatives in Indonesia to ensure that the children’s right to grow up in a family environment could be fulfilled.
"Efforts to trace their family members were carried out through close cooperation between the Department of Social Welfare, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia and the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
"After the relatives were identified, the documentation process and repatriation arrangements were coordinated by all parties involved,” she said in a statement.
Lim said the success demonstrated that inter-agency cooperation and strong relations between the two countries could provide the best solution in the interests of the children.
She also thanked Indonesian consular officer Nelvy Meilia Syah, Penang JKM director Rozita Ibrahim, the Immigration Department, as well as the entire JKM Children’s Division personnel for their commitment and cooperation throughout the process. - BERNAMA
